An Introduction of Sorts

My first blog post! Wow, where do I begin? I guess I should start with an introduction? First things first, I’m not a writer. I apologize in advance because you are all going to have to put up with me sticking in hyphens- like this- when I’m not suppose to. I basically write like I talk- which my husband says is a mixture of farm girl and child of the 80’s. I say “hecka” and “frickin” a lot, and I’m not afraid to use them in written posts. So, you can trash on how I write all you want, I won’t really care, because it doesn’t frickin matter anyway.

Second item up: I’m not a photographer. Most of my pictures I take with my Blackberry or my video camera since my real camera got filled with sand on a trip to the beach. One of these days I will buy a new one, but it’s not high on my list. So until then I don’t need to hear from people who think I need a better camera, or what I could have done to make that picture better, etc. I already know, and it doesn’t frickin matter anyway.

Last but not least: I’m not an “expert” gardener. I don’t have a degree in Horticulture (I actually don’t have a degree at all). I don’t work in the gardening industry (I work in technology). I am not a Master Gardener (although I would love to be!). I do take lots of classes locally. I do read lots of gardening blogs, books and magazines. What works for me may not work for you, and visa versa. We all have different soil, slopes, pests, zones, etc. I am totally open to people offering me advice on how to improve my gardening skills. What I’m not open to are people who want to trash MY gardening skills. That’s not cool. This is all just a hobby to me, so it doesn’t frickin matter anyway.

Sooo…we’ve established the ground rules, and after I pretty much just told you I don’t know what I’m doing, I’m sure you’re trying to figure out why you should stay. To put it simply, life gave me lemons. Most people would have taken that blessing and just made lemonade. Me, well, I kept going and added limes, oranges, mandarins, and grapefruit! We’re up to nine citrus trees now on our property, and there’s still more that I want to add. That being said, I won’t just be talking about citrus in this space, as we grow lots of fruits and vegetables in our suburban backyard. We’re going through a lot of changes right now on our modest lot, especially the expansion of the garden into the front yard. That’s right; we’re ripping out a large chunk of lawn in order to put in more raised beds! Will we succeed? What will the neighbors think? Maybe you should keep checking in! And if you don’t, well, it doesn’t frickin matter anyway ;)
